December / January Update (a little late!)
December was a busy month for the Playground project!
*Community outreach: We met with various community groups and distributed over 100 surveys to community members. After reviewing the results, there were a few common themes: safety in terms of fencing; shaded areas for adults to sit, areas with bench seating, and accessible playground equipment. Their responses were incorporated into the plans for the community playground. The input of the community is very appreciated and continues to be welcomed!
*Benches: Trex decking will provide us with two free benches if we collect 1,000 pounds of plastic bags. Collections sites are at Grade and SOAR schools and Headwaters State Bank. Big shout out to Erin Doss for organizing this project and to the students, staff and teachers at the grade and SOAR schools. A pizza and bowling party are in your future!
*Fund raising: We were able to raise almost $6,000 through Facebook’s Giving Tuesday. We raised another $9,000 by providing community businesses and members with copies of our information flyer. Through the generosity of our friends and neighbors, we are very close to our Phase One goal! This enables us to order the musical playground equipment for summer installation. We plan to order the musical equipment, swing bays and swings in the next two months. Thank you all for your generosity. It is truly overwhelming.
*Musical Playground: Check out the link at the end of this update for an example of a musical playground: Excited for the kids’ concerts, both planned and spontaneous!
*Grant applications: We have started applying for grants and will keep you updated on our progress.
*Phase Two: We are planning fundraising events for this spring and summer to raise funds for Phase Two of the project (The toddler play area and the aged 5-12 play area). Once plans are final, we will post information here and elsewhere!
*Volunteers: All are welcome to get involved at any level for any project. Contact Linda Coyle at: attylscoyle@gmail.com if you wish to help. All ideas are welcome!
* Community: Everyone involved with this project is overwhelmed by the community support. We are all so fortunate to be in such a beautiful and caring community. Thank you everyone!!
